ANCHORAGE – The thirteen members of the Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition are excited to welcome President Barak Obama to Alaska this week. The President is scheduled to speak tonight at the GLACIER conference at the Dena’ina Center in Anchorage followed by trips to rural Alaska later this week. Last week my Republican colleagues voted to sue Governor Walker for his decision to move forward with Medicaid expansion. I did not support moving forward with a lawsuit because a majority of Alaskans support Medicaid expansion, because Medicaid expansion will save the state hundreds of millions of dollars, because Republican leadership refused to hear expansion and reform bills during the special sessions, and because at a time when we are cutting essential state services we don’t need to waste money on a costly lawsuit suing ourselves.

ANCHORAGE – The cable television channel TLC, in partnership with two leading child abuse prevention organizations, will air a new documentary later this month exploring the challenges faced by the victims of child sexual abuse. Rep. Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage) has been working on solutions to the epidemic rate of child sexual abuse in Alaska and is encouraging Alaskans to watch “Breaking the Silence” Sunday, August 30 at 6 pm Alaska time.
