I made a commitment to you yesterday on the House floor to work hard as your Fairbanks Representative. Over the next 90 days, we will be working on issues ranging from the high cost of energy, to quality education, to enhancing the economy and writing a lean and efficient budget. JUNEAU – Tonight, Senate Democratic Leader Johnny Ellis (D-Anchorage) and House Democratic Leader Beth Kerttula (D-Juneau) presented a strong vision for Alaska in their response to the governor’s state of the state speech. NEWS: House Democrats Announce New Committee Assignments
JUNEAU - Today, House Democratic leadership announced updated committee assignments for the upcoming legislative session. The seats on the Finance and Resources Committees are tentative until a final decision is made once the entire caucus can meet in person. Currently, one member is out of town due to a family medical situation.

NEWS: Kawasaki Introduces Legislation to Create UA Medical and Law Schools
Bill encourages ‘Growing Our Own’ healthcare and law professionals
Fairbanks – Representative Scott Kawasaki (D-Fairbanks) introduced legislation (HB 43) to create the UA School of Medicine and the UA School of Law at the two main area campuses in Fairbanks and Anchorage. Kawasaki said that the time to invest in education is now if we are to build the workforce that Alaska will need in the next 20 years. Kawasaki points to the continuing doctor shortages and the costs of healthcare and legal services.
