NEWS: Public to be Given Opportunity to Testify on a Bill to Compensate the Wrongfully Convicted
JUNEAU – A bill creating a system to fairly compensate those wrongfully convicted in Alaska will be the subject of public testimony next week in the Alaska Legislature. House Bill 55, sponsored by Representative Scott Kawasaki (D-Fairbanks), has been scheduled for a public hearing before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at 1 p.m.

NEWS: Alaska House of Representatives Unanimously Approves Code of Military Justice for the Alaska National Guard
JUNEAU – Today, the Alaska State House of Representatives passed legislation that reforms the Alaska National Guard by creating a Code of Military Justice. House Bill 126 provides a framework of processes and consequences for members of the Alaska National Guard who violate military rules and orders.

This year will be a busy one for the Alaska Legislature as we tackle a huge budget shortfall, falling oil production and uncertainty. Alaska has had tough times before and we have survived and thrived. We have done so, because we were able to work together, shed our partisan blinders and become a better government. Our state Constitution was ratified by all 55 diverse members of the convention in a time when the sole focus was on how to make the state a better place to live, work and raise a family. NEWS: Democrats Introduce Permanent Committee to Review State Spending & Revenue
JUNEAU – Today, Rep. Scott Kawasaki (D-Fairbanks), Rep. Sam Kito (D-Juneau), and Rep. Matt Claman (D-Anchorage) introduced HCR 16 to establish the House Standing Committee on Ways & Means to consider methods to control state spending, identify ways to make government programs more efficient, and review measures that raise state revenue.

Juneau – The Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition (AIDC) and Alaska Senate Democrats will hold a press availability before the start the Second Session of the 29th Alaska Legislature. The availability will allow lawmakers to discuss specific issues and take questions from the media. The press availability will be held Tuesday, January 19, at 9 am in the Fahrenkamp Room of the Capital Building in Juneau. The press availability will feature Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition Leader Rep. Chris Tuck (D-Anchorage) and Alaska Senate Democrats Leader Sen. Berta Gardner (D-Anchorage).
