NEWS: House Democratic Caucus Celebrates New Administration of Bill Walker and Byron Mallott
Anchorage – Earlier today Bill Walker was sworn in as the Governor of Alaska during a ceremony in Juneau. During that same ceremony Byron Mallott was sworn in as Alaska’s Lieutenant Governor. The 13 members of the House Democratic Caucus send congratulations to the new Governor and Lt. Governor and pledge to work with the Administration to solve the pressing problems facing Alaska.

Anchorage- Newly elected District 36 State Representative Dan Ortiz (I-Ketchikan) was welcomed Wednesday as the newest member of the House Democratic Caucus. Ortiz ran as an independent candidate without party affiliation but he chose to join the House Democratic Caucus in part because of the freedom the caucus gives its members to vote their conscience.

NEWS: Rep. Kawasaki to Honor New Citizens at Fairbanks Ceremony
Representative Scott Kawasaki (D – Fairbanks) will join other dignitaries at the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center Wednesday, September 17, in a ceremony to welcome new citizens to the United States. NEWS: House Democrats Praise Extension of Senior Benefits Program
House Democrats today praised the implementation of House Bill 263, extending the Alaska Senior Benefits Program through 2018. Sponsored by Rep. Mike Hawker (R-Anchorage), HB 263 was co-sponsored by 32 legislators in both houses, including Democratic Representatives Gara, Gruenberg, Guttenberg, Josephson, Kawasaki, Kito III, Kreiss-Tomkins, Tarr, and Tuck. The bill was signed into law yesterday.
