I returned Sunday night from my trip to the Energy Council. The four days spent in Washington were filled with non-stop meetings and seminars throughout the day. I travelled with three fellow House Democrats and a dozen House Republicans for meetings about Alaska. Meetings included visiting our Congressional Delegation and members of the Senate Energy Committee, the EPA and the Department of Interior.

The House Resources Committee passed Governor Parnell’s bill to give away around $2 billion of Alaska’s oil wealth each year back to big oil. I was disappointed by the Committee’s action to move the bill despite many unanswered questions. We have not heard any real evidence; the only thing the committee has heard was “anecdotal evidence”, “industry input” and “personal opinions” from administration.
