NEWS: House Minority Members Respond to Governor’s State of the Budget Address

JUNEAU – Alaska Governor Bill Walker presented his first State of the Budget address Thursday night. Governor Walker outlined both short and long-term plans to deal with a daunting fiscal crisis brought on by declining oil production and prices. The House Minority, made up of Democrats and an Independent, appreciates the care Governor Walker took in suggesting ideas for the Alaska Legislature to consider in the coming months.

Rep. Josephson’s Newsletter: Back to Session

Tuesday, January 20th marked the first day of the 29th Alaska Legislature and it is looking to be a very interesting first session. Our caucus has grown by 30%; we have a new governor with ambitions to expand Medicaid, providing insurance to 40,000 Alaskans. And, oil prices have dropped to $49.50 greatly reducing Alaska’s revenue stream and helping to create a $3.5 billion deficit. But before I start talking about the rough days that we will have to weather, I would like to start with some good news!

NEWS: Lawmakers Urge the Walker Administration to Take a Small Step to Help Address the Budget Crisis in Alaska

ANCHORAGE – On Monday, Rep. Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage), Rep. Andy Josephson (D-Anchorage) and Senator Bill Wielechowski (D-Anchorage) sent a letter to Governor Bill Walker asking him to consider reappropriating a $19.6-million dollar capital budget appropriation that’s currently dedicated to the U-Med Northern Access Road project in Anchorage. The lawmakers suggest the money be used to maintain critical infrastructure.
