FAIRBANKS- Representative David Guttenberg (D-Fairbanks) announced this week that he has hired a new finance aide. Kyle Campbell grew up in the Goldstream Valley and has been involved in local Fairbanks community organizations for most of his life. The President is scheduled to speak tonight at the GLACIER conference at the Dena’ina Center in Anchorage followed by trips to rural Alaska later this week. The GLACIER conference, which is focused on the Arctic, will include foreign dignitaries and experts on Arctic issues.

On Tuesday leg council announced plans to sue Gov. Walker in an effort to block his authority to expand Medicaid in Alaska. This comes as no surprise considering the opposition the Governor faced since he first introduced Medicaid expansion into the budget during the regular 90 day session. It was blocked by a few and has landed us where we are today—about to spend half a million dollars during a deficit budget on corporate lawyers to carry out a lawsuit against an expansion that would bring in federal money to the state and create thousands of jobs.

Last month the Anchorage Bucs traveled to Fairbanks to take on the Goldpanners and I was honored to be asked to throw out the first pitch of the game. After an amazing pitch that flew right into the catcher’s glove, I was all but asked to be on the team. I was also delighted to accept an invitation to attend the opening ceremonies of the World Eskimo Indian Olympics, where I was able to be part of such a unique and important event that celebrates Alaskan Native diversity, heritage and culture
