ANCHORAGE – Tuesday, the Chairman of the Alaska Legislative Council officially signed binding legal agreements with two law firms to continue a lawsuit against Alaska Governor Bill Walker over his decision to accept federal funding to expand Medicaid eligibility in Alaska. The President is scheduled to speak tonight at the GLACIER conference at the Dena’ina Center in Anchorage followed by trips to rural Alaska later this week. The GLACIER conference, which is focused on the Arctic, will include foreign dignitaries and experts on Arctic issues.

Last week, Governor Walker announced that he will use his executive authority to expand Medicaid and improve access to affordable healthcare to all Alaskans. While the Legislative Budget and Audit Committee now has 45 days to respond to the Governor’s decision, the Attorney General and the Legislature’s attorney agree that the Governor is within his Alaska Constitutional authority to accept Medicaid expansion. This decision is good for Alaska.
