Neighborhood Crime Alert

Dear Neighbors,

The upsetting news that of one our neighbors on Linda Lane has been shot during a break-in has heightened my concerns about the apparent rise in violent crime in our area and throughout Anchorage this summer.

It is my understanding that the suspect is still at large, heightening our need to be vigilant at all times.

Rep. Tuck invited Anchorage Police Officers to join him at a neighborhood crime meeting.

I hope that all of us who are able will take part in protecting our right to be safe in our homes and neighborhoods.  I have hosted numerous crime related community meetings throughout our area and I have learned about many new ways we can be part of solving and preventing crime:

New Crime Mapping System

The free mobile app provides accessibility for citizens to track crime in their area easily. Citizens can track crime by type and location, view basic incident information, sign up for email crime alerts, and provide crime tips.  To sign up go to http://www.raidsonline.com.

APD Reporting System

There are several things you can report online at the Anchorage Police Department website: lost property, identity theft, fraud, theft from vehicles, harassing phone calls and vandalism. Just go to http://www.muni.org/departments/police/Pages/default.aspx.

Neighborhood Watch

Neighborhood Crime Watch is a crime prevention program of the Anchorage Police Department. It is one of the most effective and least costly ways of reducing and/or preventing residential property crimes. It is a neighborhood and community based effort designed to assist citizens and the police in reducing crime and increasing safety and security in the neighborhood. To set up a neighborhood watch in your area call 786-8585 or visit http://www.muni.org/pages/default.aspx

Public Safety Alerts Through Social Media

The Anchorage Fire Department and Anchorage Police Department maintains several social media accounts to share information about major fire events, public safety, and fire awareness tips. Go to http://www.muni.org/departments/police/Pages/default.aspx and http://www.muni.org/departments/fire/Pages/default.aspx to find links for social media sites.

Get Texts and Email Alerts

NIXLE allows you to receive information from the Anchorage Police Department via text, email or web.  To learn about major road closures, public safety incidents and what your police department is up to. Sign up at https://local.nixle.com/register.
