Medicaid Expansion and Marijuana Control Board

Dear Neighbors,

As the days go by, I seek to keep you updated on various topics and opportunities to weigh in on new developments as they arise.  I hope you will find the following information to be useful:

Medicaid

Recently Governor Walker announced that, by executive order, he was bypassing the legislature to expand Medicaid. I support this move. A small group of legislators stood in the way and dragged the legislature though an expensive overtime session for something that would have passed if it was ever brought for a vote. I applaud the Governor in using every tool possible to bring millions of dollars in federal funding, and providing 40,000 more Alaskans with easily accessible and more efficient health care, thus creating more jobs and strengthening an economy much in need.

Marijuana Control Board

With the recent legalization of marijuana we have been able to explore the benefits that regulating it will have throughout Alaska’s communities.  The newly appointed marijuana control board is working hard to ensure that the will of the people be fulfilled.  Currently the second set of draft regulations concerning licensing is up for public comment.  I encourage the public to use their voice and take advantage of their influence.  A copy of the written regulation draft can be found at the ABC board’s website at commerce.state.ak.us/dnn/abc/Home.aspx.

Written comments can be submitted to John Calder, Marijuana Board at 550 W. 7th Avenue, in Anchorage.  Additionally the Marijuana Control Board will be accepting comments by electronic mail to john.calder@alaska.gov. Comments may also be submitted through the Alaska Online Public Notice System.  All comments must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. on August 8, 2015.  Please call 451-2030 for any further questions.

As always, I’m here for you, so please keep in touch on matters important to you and your family!

Warm regards,
