Snow Plowing Alert

Dear Neighbors,

I just received notice that Anchorage and MatSu are receiving a hefty amount of fresh snow. 

The State Department of Transportation has assured legislators that they have all available plows out to clear state-maintained roads for safe travel as soon as possible.

The Municipality of Anchorage reports that all main streets and intersections are being plowed immediately.  Residential streets are on the Municipalities regular snow-removal schedule unless the storm worsens.  If there is a slick spot on roads near you which need sand, call Muni Maintenance at 343-8277, and they will send a sanding truck.

Paint the town

NeighborWorks Anchorage is participating in a nationwide initiative named Paint the Town 2011 on June 3rd – June 11th.  This is a “community based program to paint homes for single parents, seniors, people with disabilities, and other homeowners with a limited capacity” and is a great opportunity to give back to the community.  You are able to nominate a home to be painted by clicking here. I encourage you to get involved whether by volunteering or voting. 

SUMMER INTERNSHIPS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS

Do you know a college student looking for a summer internship?  Each year, the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation (APFC) and several external investment managers hire Alaska college students as summer interns.  Recruitment for summer 2011 internships is now underway.  This year APFC has 16 different internships listed on its website.  All program information can be found on the APFC website: www.apfc.org.

Apply for your 2011 Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend today!  Online applications are quick and easy, and are due March 31st.

Please join me by donating part of your dividend through “Pick, Click, Give” this year!  Every Alaskan can make a difference when we file online for our PFD. Together we can celebrate the arts, lend a hand to those in need, and support our youth as they reach for success.

Through the Pick. Click. Give. option on the online Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend application, you can easily donate $25 or more to any number of Alaska nonprofit causes, community foundations, and campuses of the University of Alaska.
