The Legislature Convenes

Dear Neighbors,

Today I began my service in the 29th Alaska Legislature as the returning Minority Leader by taking the following sacred oath:

“I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Alaska, and that I will faithfully discharge my duties as Representative to the best of my ability."

These principles will guide me as we respond to a deficit crisis that threatens our livelihoods and our futures. For too long, poor leadership has created unsustainable budgets and shifted the benefits of our resources to outside interests. This has resulted in insecurity and instability and threatens our future.

Rep. Chris Tuck is joined by his mother, Marta, as he signs the Oath of Office with Lt. Governor Byron Mallott.

Our constitution mandates that we manage our resources for the maximum benefit of the people, that we provide a good education system for our children, and that we stand up for our individual rights and liberties.

There will be hard choices ahead, but I will always put the needs of the people of Alaska first and foremost.
