MAY 30, 2014 Summer Fun Neighborhood Activities Dear Friends and Neighbors,
It’s time to celebrate summer! Despite the rain this week, summer is rolling on and there’s a lot of stuff happening in our neighborhood and across the state! Summer Food Program
St. Anthony’s and The Children’s Lunchbox are teaming up to offer the Summer Food Program, with free meals available for kids, pregnant women, and adults with disabilities. Volunteers are always welcome! Breakfast and lunches will be offered at St. Anthony’s or Williwaw Elementary, and you can find date and time details here. KTUU and KTVA joined volunteers and families on the program’s first day, click the links to read about it! Airport Heights Picnic Airport Heights is holding its 10th annual picnic on June 7th at Tikishla Park. Come have a bite to eat, meet your neighbors, and enjoy some great entertainment! Let’s Get Growing The Alaska Museum of Science and Nature invites you to discover what it takes for plants to survive at their “Let’s Get Growing” Exhibit. The museum will have a new self-guided topic every week during the summer and tomorrow is this exhibit’s last day, so get over there and explore! Mountain View Library The Library has a host of summer activities, from the Thursday Summer Reading Celebration to Saturday Lego Club to Wednesday Explore and Experiment science activities. Stop by the Library today (it’s open until 6 p.m.) to pick up a book and a schedule of summer fun! Community Clean-Up Neighborworks is holding a Dave Rose Park Clean-Up, where volunteers can help beautify the park by picking up trash, removing graffiti, and landscaping. The Clean-Up will be held from 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Friday June 13, 2014. If you would like to help out, contact John at 907-677-8438 or jguintu@nwanchorage.org to register. Paint the Town Neighborworks is also holding Paint the Town as part of Neighborworks Week, Saturday, June 7, through Sunday, June 15. This program helps out single parents, seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, and other homeowners with limited capacity who need their house painted. Last year, 13 families returned to freshly painted homes and you can nominate a friend or neighbor to receive the same special treatment here. Alaska’s Annual Land Auction This year’s land auction features over 200 parcels across the state. The parcels vary from road-accessible areas in southcentral to remote, lake front property near Fairbanks. Bidding is already happening and will continue through July 16, 2014. The brochure, which contains maps, parcel details, and minimum bids, is available here. This is a great opportunity for Alaska residents to purchase a piece of Alaska! Mark Your Calendar
Let me know if there are other events in the area so I can help spread the word! Sincerely,
