APRIL 25, 2014 End of Session Dear Friends and Neighbors, The Legislature adjourned today, five days after the 90-day statutory limit. We went into overtime to try and get it right on education. The omnibus education bill passed and I am extremely disappointed that the final bill will result in cuts for the Anchorage School District. Here is a snapshot:
Why? Much of the funding in the bill goes to programs for correspondence schools, residential school stipends, and internet services for rural schools. These are programs I support, but this funding will not prevent teacher cuts for the ASD. What’s Next? My staff and I are now en route to Anchorage and look forward to hearing from you upon our return. Feel free to call my Anchorage office at (907)269-0144 or my cell phone at (907)360-4047 with any questions or concerns! Sincerely,
P.S. Look for Sen. Ellis and my End-of-Session Newsletter in your mailboxes in the upcoming week!
