CONSTITUENT MEETING RESCHEDULE AND
OIL AND GAS TAX CREDIT REFORM

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I want to send my sincerest apologies for not being there in person for the Neighborhood Meeting Pizza Party last Saturday. Unfortunately, there were mechanical issues that led to delays on Alaska Airlines flights from Juneau to Anchorage. 

Fortunately, I was able to be there the entire time via FaceTime, and thanks to Seng Her, I was able to have several one on one conversations with people.  It was a first for me, but I really appreciated getting to visit, even if by FaceTime.

Tomorrow night I’ll be in Anchorage so I want to give another opportunity to visit.  Please join me tomorrow night, Tuesday, March 15th from 6 p.m. to 8 pm., at Yes Bistro.  I’ll have some snacks and I’d love the chance to talk about important state issues.

PUBLIC INVITED TO TESTIFY ON GOV. WALKER’S OIL & GAS CREDIT REFORM BILL

The Resources Committee is providing an opportunity today Monday, March 14th for the public to weigh-in Monday on Governor Walker’s proposal to increase oil taxes, HB 247.  The question is whether it is reasonable for the state to pay generous credits, even paying more than 100% of the costs in some cases, to the oil industry.  I say no.  We use credits to co-invest in projects, and that can have good results in some cases, but the current system is out of balance and needs to be reformed. 

Alaskans interested in testifying may do so Monday, March 14 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Testimony will be limited to three minutes and those able are encouraged to testify at their community Legislative Information Office, or LIO, which can be found here.

Those unable to attend in person can call the Juneau LIO at 907-465-4648 to be patched in to the meeting. Off network callers and those attending at LIOs are encouraged to arrive early and expect wait times before being able to testify.

Interested Alaskans can also email their testimony to the Committee if they don’t want to participate over the phone. Email testimony can be sent to lhscres@akleg.gov.

Rep. Nageak said that if there are testifiers still in the queue Monday evening, the Committee plans to continue public testimony Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., as well.
