HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Z.J. Loussac Library at
3600 Denali St. in Anchorage |
I hope your new year is off to a fabulous start. We're packing up to head to Juneau for the legislative session and I want to make sure you have some important information to keep you involved in legislative happenings.
First, this Saturday is the Anchorage Caucus meeting where many Anchorage legislators will be present to listen to your concerns and priorities for the next session. The meeting is;
Saturday, January 11th from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm at the Assembly Chambers at Loussac Library. Hope to see you there!
CITIZEN GUIDE TO KEEPING IN TOUCH
There are many ways that citizens can stay in touch with legislative happenings. Below are some that I find most helpful:
Rep. Tarr's website: http://akdemocrats.org/rep_tarr/
Rep. Tarr's Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/geran.tarr
Rep. Tarr on Twitter: https://twitter.com/RepGeranTarr\
Alaska Legislature Website Information: www.legis.state.ak.us
BASIS Website Information: The legislature maintains a website called BASIS where you can track bills, find out about committee membership and contact information, and legislative hearings.
To follow bills that I sponsor please visit this page: Tarr’s Sponsor Summary
To follow bills by subject please visit this page: Subject Summary
To find committee member information please use this page: Committee Members
Contact information for all legislators can be found here: Session Contact Information
Bill Tracking Management Facility: The website also has a great tool called the Bill Tracking Management Facility for tracking movement on individual bills. Say, for example, that House Bill 77 (restricting water rights and threatening salmon streams) is a bill of interest to you. By using this tool you will get notices when the bill is scheduled for a hearing, when it moves from committee, and when it is scheduled for a vote. You get up to date information so you can contact legislators in the appropriate committee or body when the bill is scheduled for a floor vote.
You can access the BTMF here: Bill Tracking (does require you to create free account)
Watching Legislative Hearings: Meetings of the legislature are broadcast on Gavel to Gavel, found on local television and broadcast statewide. There are only a couple of Gavel to Gavel cameras in the building at any time so the legislature added AKL.TV. This is a newer service and is a wonderful addition because it means that all legislative hearings are available to watch in real time or later.
You can access AKL.TV here: AKL.TV
I will make every effort to stay in touch during the session and make sure you have information on the issues you care about.
Sincerely,

Representative Geran Tarr
