Kawasaki to Present Citation to Honor Senior Citizen’s Recognition Day May 9
Fairbanks – Representative Scott Kawasaki will help celebrate Senior Citizen’s Recognition Day in Fairbanks this Thursday, May 9th.
Today, approximately 85,100 citizens aged 60 and older live in Alaska.
“With a growing senior population in Alaska, it is critical for the Legislature to address pressing concerns of these Alaskans who have helped build our state. Healthcare, retirement, the cost of energy, and senior housing are all critical issues that I look forward to working with the community to find solutions to,” said Rep. Kawasaki, “I feel honored to celebrate the hard work, dedication and wisdom of our older generations.”
Thursday’s event is a long-standing tradition in Fairbanks, dating back to 1984 with the first Senior Citizen’s Recognition Day. The goal is to provide senior citizens of the Fairbanks North Star Borough an opportunity to learn about local, state, and federal agencies that provide services for senior citizens. It is also a day to recognize and honor citizens who have made great contributions to the betterment of our community. The Fairbanks North Star Borough Parks and Recreation Department is organizing the activities of the day. Rep. Kawasaki will give a brief address and present a legislative Honorarium at the event.
Festivities begin at 10 a.m. at the Carlson Center, with the official program beginning at 11 a.m. A catered lunch will follow the awards presentation and prizes will be given at the end of the event.
