Rep. Guttenberg’s Legislative Report: Important Testimony Opportunity: Constitutional Amendment on Education Funding

Tomorrow the House Finance Committee will take public testimony on HJR 16 “Constitutional Amendment: Educational Funding”. This resolution would amend the Alaska Constitution to allow state funds to be used for religious or private educational institutions.

House Democrats offer amendments to require more development, disclosure

JUNEAU – Today, House Democrats offered a series of amendments to Governor Parnell’s oil tax giveaway designed to make sure Alaskans get the exploration, production and jobs Alaska needs on the North Slope in return for lowering oil taxes.

State numbers show even more production won’t overcome billions in lost revenues

JUNEAU – According to a new fiscal note from the Alaska Department of Revenue, Governor Parnell’s proposal to give large tax breaks to the oil industry would still cost the state billions of dollars in lost revenue even if future oil production increases. Because producers have not committed to increasing investment, exploration or production should the bill pass, the administration used arbitrary scenarios assuming various degrees of increased production. No scenario showed Alaska making back lost revenues once the bill takes full effect.

Congratulations to the Iditarod mushers who have finished and those still on the trail! Dog mushing is an amazing extreme sport and my hat goes off to all the teams that entered both the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest this year.
