Dear Neighbors,

With the election behind us it’s now time to roll up our sleeves and get to work as we prepare for the 28th Legislative Session, which will begin on January 15th. My office will continue to be open for your legislative needs until we transition to Juneau in early January. You are always welcome to call, email or drop by in person. As we prepare for a new session it is helpful to get feedback and hear your legislative requests.

Welcome New Constituents

I am honored and excited to serve as State Representative for House District 4 and the City of Fairbanks. I look forward to learning more about the new neighborhoods I’ll be representing and hearing about the issues that matter most to residents. And for those who are no longer in my district, I want to say it has been a pleasure serving you and I encourage you to continue to use my office as a resource.

Rep. Kawasaki speaking on the House floorThe stakes are high for this legislative session. With numerous new legislators ready to be sworn in, critical issues including oil taxes, education and energy relief taking center stage, your input can help shape these discussions. I will continue to work hard to focus on what matters most: ensuring we pass legislation that keeps the best interests of Alaskans in mind. As in past legislative sessions, I promise to update you on the hot topics. And you can always stay connected by accessing the official Alaska Legislative website. Stay tuned for much more information to come!

Giving Back and Giving Thanks

I want to wish you all a warm Thanksgiving filled with friends and family. With the busy holiday season upon us, I encourage everyone to give back and help those community members in need. Consider making a donation to the Fairbanks Community Food Bank or volunteering a few hours of time to a service organization such as the Stone Soup Cafe. The help is always appreciated and I believe as responsible neighbors we must do our part to help each other, especially during these cold winter months.

Supporting Small Business

After the Thanksgiving turkey is finished, many families turn their attention to bargain shopping on Friday morning. While all businesses compete for our dollars, those that are given to locally owned business and small business will bring huge benefits to Fairbanks. Between Black Friday and Cyber Monday there is a day dedicated to the businesses that boost the economy and invigorate neighborhoods across the country. It's Small Business Saturday, and this year, it's happening on November 24th. Shop Small this November 24th, and let's make this the biggest day of the year for small, local business.

Working Hard for Fairbanks Families,
