Dear Neighbors,
In the Finance committee, we are in the thick of studying the Governor’s oil tax break. Last week, shortly after 2 am the House Resources committee rushed out SB 21 with even lower taxes proposed for the oil industry than the Senate version. It now gives even more billions of your dollars to oil corporations, still without any guarantee for production.
The last week of session is always an interesting and busy time of year. On the docket for this week:
- SB 21 -- The Governor’s Oil Tax Giveaway
- Capital and Operating Budgets
- HB 4 – Small Gas Pipeline Bill
- SB 23 – LNG Trucking project
Stay up to speed on all the details of these bills and more at alaskalegislature.tv.

On Thursday, people across the state, including Fairbanks, gathered in protest to SB 21’s massive giveaway. It was a successful showing of people from all walks of life, political parties, and generations who understand this risky proposal -- and the loss of future dollars -- is a bad deal for Alaskans!
My office and staff are here to work on your behalf, so please continue to contact me with any matters of your concern.
Working Hard for Fairbanks Families,
Scott Kawasaki
