Dear Neighbors,
The 28th Alaska Legislature Convened Yesterday!
I made a commitment to you yesterday on the House floor to work hard as your Fairbanks Representative. Over the next 90 days, we will be working on issues ranging from the high cost of energy, to quality education, to enhancing the economy and writing a lean and efficient budget. It will be a challenging order to get all of the work of the state done, but I’m looking forward to rolling up my sleeves once again.
Working Together for Fairbanks
The legislative work will be made easier thanks to our constituents who call, write and give advice on bills to make them better. It also takes a dedicated staff to understand the minute details and how to navigate through the state government. They are your staff and you should feel free to call if you need any assistance.
I am pleased to welcome Riley Leonard from the University of Alaska Legislative Internship program. Riley is a Fairbanks-grown anthropology major at the University of Alaska Southeast. Fresh off a year-long study abroad in Thailand and Spain, Riley is eager to pursue his enthusiasm for government and political science while working for the Alaska State Legislature. Outside of the office, he enjoys alpine skiing, hockey, and cooking exotic foods.
Jessie Peterson is joining my office for the second year. Jessie was the lead committee aide last year for the House Resources committee, and will be lead on constituent outreach, assist with various office needs and will continue to track pressing resource issues this legislative session. When not in Juneau for session she is happy to call Fairbanks home, enjoying the recreational opportunities of the Interior with her dog Bella, and participating in the multitude of Fairbanks community events.
Mindy O’Neall is the Chief of Staff for the office and will also be responsible for staffing the House Finance Committee, working on capital project needs for Fairbanks. This is Mindy’s second session with my office and her third session in Juneau. She is a Fairbanks resident, serves as a board member for Calypso Farms and enjoys spending her time with her cat Nigak and travelling to new places around the globe.
Working Hard for Fairbanks Families,
Scott Kawasaki
