Legislative Update
AKLNG & Upcoming Open House
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
These past two weeks since my last e-blast has seen a lot of activity. More than one would expect during an interim. With a rumor of a special session right around the corner to address AKLNG contracts there are a lot of questions that the legislature wants answers to and yesterday the Joint Senate and House Resources Committee receivedsome answers.
Also included in this e-blast is an upcoming public meeting tonight as well as a short piece on a brief conversation I had with U.S. Interior Secretary Jewell at the recent AFN event.
AKLNG Update
|

Rep. Josephson and other members of the House and Senate Resources Committees listen during yesterday’s meeting |
On Wednesday I traveled out to the Mat-Su to attend a joint Senate and House Resources committee update on the AKLNG project. Presenting to the committees were members of the Alaska Gasline Development Corporation, AKLNG, ExxonMobil, BP, ConocoPhillips, TransCanada, the Department of Natural Resources, and the Department of Revenue. The meeting was scheduled to go from 6:30-9:30pm, but we did not finish until closer to 12:30am!
The meeting covered a number of issues with the gasline ranging from the size of the pipeline itself to how much of a share Alaska (and Alaskans) will have in the project. It was easily one of the most exhausting meeting I have attended as a legislator, but was also one of the most informative. If you would like to listen to the meeting you can clickhere. If a video link becomes available I will be sure to post that for those that would prefer to watch.

University Lake Park Master Plan |
Tonight the University Master Plan will be presented to the public during an open house at the BP Energy Center. This will be a great opportunity to voice any concerns you have or to just learn about what is going on in the community. If you use the dog park near APU this open house could be of particular interest to you. If you would like more information before tonight’s meeting you can click here to be directed to the Municipalities website.
There will be another open house in October if you are unable to make it to this one. I will be sure to give you a reminder when the date gets closer.
Interior Secretary Jewell

Rep. Josephson and Rep. Tarr meeting with Secretary Jewell (Center) |
During the commotion of President Obama’s Alaska visit I was able to meet and briefly talk to the U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Sally Jewell. While there was not a lot of time available to speak in a one-on-one situation I wanted to make sure I spoke to her about two specific issues, the proposed road through the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge connecting Cold Bay and King Cove and the Pebble Mine. Both of these issue have consumed a lot of oxygen during my time in the legislature, and while they both might not be at the forefront of Alaska’s issues at the moment that does not mean that they areany less important to the State.
As always, please call or email with any thoughts, ideas, or concerns.
I Answer to You!
Sincerely,
