A Busy Start to Summer
Never a Dull Moment

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I want to start by saying thank you to all the people who came out to the U-Med/Midtown barbecue.  It was great to see so many familiar faces and talk about issues that are important to the community.  If you didn’t have time to make it the BBQ and there is an issue that you want to talk about please do not hesitate to contact my office.

In addition to the BBQ I have also been at a number of events in the area including:

• A celebration of life for Captain Jack Johnson.  Captain Jack was a sailor on the S.S. Exodus, a soldier during WWII, and a loving father and husband.  His story is incredible and I would encourage you to read his autobiography “The Adventures of Captain Jack Johnson” written by Pamela Doerr but spoken by Jack.  Here is a link to his obituary if you would like to read a little more before committing to a book: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/adn/obituary.aspx?n=captain-jack-johnson&pid=170497535

• My first official meeting as a member of the Ethics Committee.

• Call it boredom, curiosity or research but I visited Tudor Bingo for the first time and received a tour of the facility with my wife.  The construction of Tudor Bingo was a major change to my subdivision.  I found it to be a well-run facility but I am still concerned with traffic impacts in the Bancroft neighborhood.

• Attending a presentation at the Loussac Library about the proposed Susitna Dam project.  I am hoping to take a trip up the river to view the area that looks to be most impacted by the dam.  This is a large project and I want to learn more about its potential impacts.

• The Labor Solidarity Picnic on the Park Strip in downtown Anchorage.  It was a great showing of legislators and individuals!

• Attending the PERS/TERS benefit seminar at the Dena'ina Center on Thursday.

• Attending a U-Med Steering Committee meeting on the University Lake Dog Park.

• Attending the groundbreaking for the new addition to the YMCA in the district.

Groundbreaking with the YMCA Board and Sen. Meyer.

And congratulations to the East High Softball team on capturing the State Championship yet again!  The win streak continues!

Important Information

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Faclities (DOT&PF) will be hosting an open house starting at 4:30 pm Monday, June 16, at the Loussac Library to discuss the Seward Highway and 36th Ave intersection improvement plan.  The purpose of the open house is so the DOT&PF can hear your thoughts on three alternative plans. DOT&PF intends to make a final decision this summer on which alternative to pursue. This is an ideal time to be sure to have DOT&PF hear your thoughts and concerns.

If you would like to learn more about the project you can visit www.sewardand36th.com.  You can also contact Sean Holland, the DOT&PF Project Manager, if you have any questions or concerns.  His information is listed below.
