FOX SPRING WELL UPDATE
Recently, Fairbanks Soil and Water Conservation organized a group to investigate ways to preserve the Fox Spring Well for public use. Thanks to the Fox Spring Task Force, an extension has been granted by DOT. Currently, the sale of the land to the adjacent landowner is on hold in order to give the task force more time to find a solution.
I have asked DOT to include a conservation easement in the deed if the land is sold. This would ensure permanent access to the spring. Although a conservation easement does not immediately solve the issue of funds needed to maintain and operate the well, it does guarantee that the resource will be protected for future public use.
DOT has expressed their interests in helping to preserve the well, and have offered their services for future maintenance. In addition, the task force, as well as my office, are open to hearing any ideas or thoughts you might have on how to preserve the spring.
If you would like to join the task force, or have any questions, click here for Fairbanks Soil and Water Conservation District’s website or call 479.1213
I look forward to hearing from you,
