UA Funding

A guide to lobbying the Legislature for increased funding for the University of Alaska

Dear UA Supporter,

Due to the damage from years of shortfunding, our goal is nothing short of seeing the $16.3 million increase proposed by President Hamilton.

But to get that, we will need your help! Though studies show that Alaskans support increased funding for UA, the Republican Legislative Majority has been ignoring that fact for years now. With an ambitious communication campaign, I think we can force them to acknowledge the people's desire for a strong University.

The links below lead to information to help get such a campaign started. You can help by sharing this information with all of your friends and colleagues, and asking them to contact key legislators via mail, email, fax, AND phone, urging them to support the Governor's UA budget proposal. All correspondence should also be sent to the editors of all major newspapers in the state. If legislators hear about it enough, it may begin to sink in that Alaskans want them to support higher education here in Alaska.

Remember: it's the volume of calls, faxes, and email messages that will persuade them to come on board, so enlist as many people as you possibly can! With the help of all of UA's supporters across the state, we can make this Legislature responsive to the desire of Alaskans to have a strong higher education system.

Thank you for all your support!
