JUNEAU - As her first official action this session, new Rep. Berta Gardner, D-Anchorage, recommended the passage of a resolution calling for the opening of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to oil and gas development.

Representative Gardner took the action as a member of the House Special Committee on Oil and Gas, the key committee that will deal with oil and gas issues this session.

"I look forward to taking an active role on oil and gas issues in the Legislature," said Representative Gardner. "My key focus this session is to build a gasline in Alaska."

Representative Gardner also serves on the Health, Education and Social Services Committee and the State Affairs Committee. She is a member of the budget subcommittees that oversee the University of Alaska and the Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development.

"I'm honored to represent the families, neighborhoods and residents of District 24 which in midtown Anchorage," said Representative Gardner.
