| 2004-05-08 | Ellis: End Gridlock at Lake Otis & Tudor Transportation bond should move through Senate without delay |
Additional information: Ellis JUNEAU - Senate Minority Leader Johnny Ellis (D-Anchorage) today called on his colleagues in the Alaska Senate to pass House Bill 561, the statewide transportation infrastructure bond package. HB561 includes funds to break the notorious traffic gridlock at Lake Otis and Tudor roads in Anchorage. "The bond package addresses a critical need for Anchorage," said Senator Ellis. "The Senate is in a position to break the gridlock. Delays at Lake Otis and Tudor hinder public safety officers and emergency vehicles from the police department and area hospitals. Business owners and commuters also call for immediate action." The gridlock has got to be fixed, said Senator Ellis. "I’m calling on my colleagues to rise above partisan politics and pass this bond package. It would be a total embarrassment if the Majority legislators blocked progress. I don’t know how they could come home and explain why they couldn't fix Lake Otis & Tudor. Before we can solve the problem in Anchorage, we need to solve a problem in Juneau."
"We need four new turn lanes and we need them now," said Senator Ellis. "Lake Otis & Tudor is in the heart of my district, and it needs a quadruple bypass." | |
