Senator Lincoln Highlights Priorities on 100th Day JUNEAU – House and Senate Democratic legislators today held a press conference to mark the 100th day of the 23rd Alaska State Legislature. The lawmakers stood shoulder to shoulder and emphasized a united commitment to full funding for public education, reiterated Democrats' pledge to protect the Permanent Fund Dividend, and highlighted the importance of building an Alaska natural gas pipeline. Senator Georgianna Lincoln (D-Rampart) took the opportunity today to focus attention on some of her priority legislation: a hate crimes bill, conveying the Old Minto site to the Village of Minto, and constitutional protection of the Permanent Fund Dividend. "The time has come for Senate Bill 246, the hate crimes bill," said Senator Lincoln. "The continued violence in Alaska against victims due to race, sex, color, creed, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, ancestry or national origin make the hate crimes bill timely and much needed in assuring a healthy, thriving community and state." Senate Bill 132, conveying the Old Minto site to the Village of Minto, is an important bill for Lincoln’s district. "Conveying the site of Old Minto, the homeland of the Village of Minto, will continue the valuable contributions of the Alcohol Recovery and Cultural Heritage Camps that operate there," said Senator Lincoln. Senate Joint Resolution 19 is a bill that calls for a statewide vote on constitutional protection of the Permanent Fund Dividend. "Constitutional Protection of the Permanent Fund has been enthusiastically supported by Alaskans across the state." ###
