Health Caucus JUNEAU – The Joint Legislative Health Caucus will meet at noon on Tuesday March 9th in the Butrovich Room at the Juneau Capitol Building. The one-hour teleconferenced meeting will focus on work force development efforts in Alaska’s health care industry. co-chairs Representative Sharon Cissna and Senator Donny Olson will moderate the meeting. Although the Alaska’s health industry is growing, most communities face a shortage of qualified health service workers, affecting accessibility and increased costs of health care for Alaskans. "Does Alaska Health Training Make the Grade?" will address the demands of a growing industry and the increasing need for a trained workforce. Discussion will focus on current efforts and initiatives, as well as promising solutions for this sustainable, growing industry. "The health services industry is the fastest growing sector in Alaska’s economy," stated Rep. Cissna. "The industry historically has been resistant to economic downturns, demonstrating that this rapidly growing sector is also a sustainable economic engine." Health services and education specialists will attend the caucus to offer their insight on the rapidly growing demand for qualified workers. The meeting will be teleconferenced statewide.
