Military Reservists’ Benefits Protected JUNEAU - Governor Frank H. Murkowski today signed an administrative order enabling state-employed reservists called to active duty to continue to receive group life and health benefits for themselves and their families. The administrative order was made possible by a bill passed last year. Senate Bill 26 was jointly sponsored by Senator Kim Elton (D-Juneau) and former Senator Robin Taylor (R-Wrangell). SB26 gave the governor the ability to make up the difference in pay and continue some or all health benefits for reservists and their families. While the bill was retroactive to September 11, 2001, the governor’s order applies from today forward. "SB 26 gave the governor a way to protect our men and women in uniform. More importantly, it let him protect their families' health care while they’re serving our nation and state," said Sen. Elton. The administrative order takes effect immediately. ###
