Additional information: JUNEAU – Rep. Reggie Joule was alert and resting comfortably in an Anchorage hospital after suffering a heart attack early Wednesday. The Kotzebue Democrat was expected to be released in a couple of days. Doctors at Providence Hospital said they intended to treat the legislator with medication to prevent a second attack and that surgery was not required. Joule had complained for several days of feeling tired and sought medical help on Tuesday in Juneau. Early Wednesday, he drove himself to the emergency room at Bartlett Regional Hospital and was then transported on a medical flight to Anchorage. Now serving his fourth term in the Alaska House of Representatives, Joule, 50, holds a seat on the House Finance Committee. His wife, Linda, and other family members have been at his side at the hospital. They described Joule as being in normal good spirits. “Reggie called me this afternoon and told me he’d be back at work in a couple of days,” said House Democratic Leader Ethan Berkowitz. “In the meantime, while he is recovering, I would like to assure the residents of District 40 that the Democratic caucus will make sure they are represented in the House.” For additional information, including updates on Joule’s condition, contact his office at 1-800-782-4833 or (in Juneau) 465-4833. ### | |
