Salmon Sworn In, Takes Committee Seats JUNEAU – New Representative Woodie Salmon, D-Beaver, took the oath of office Monday in front of friends and family members, then received his committee assignments later in the week. Salmon's parents, Minnie and William Salmon, his sister, Isabelle Carroll, and his 93-year-old grandfather, the Rev. David Salmon, PhD, a traditional chief of Chalkyitsik, witnessed the swearing-in ceremony. "I'm honored to represent the people of District 6, the largest House district in Alaska," Salmon said. "I'm eager to learn more about the issues in our state and especially look forward to working towards solving the problems facing rural Alaska." On Thursday, Salmon won seats on the Community and Regional Affairs and Transportation Committees and special committees on Education and Fisheries. He is also a member of the budget subcommittees that oversee the Public Safety and Natural Resources budgets. Salmon listed his priorities for the session as full funding for education, strengthening public safety, exploring more economic development opportunities and combating high fuel costs in rural Alaska. ###
