Anchorage Student Wins "Bill of Rights" Essay Contest ANCHORAGE -- Senator Bettye Davis announced today that Anchorage high school senior Christina Petitfils is one of only seven winners of the nationwide National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) and National Rifle Association (NRA) Bill of Rights Essay Scholarship contest. Ms. Petitfils was chosen from among hundreds of entrants across the nation. "I am very proud of Ms. Petitfils and her accomplishment," said Senator Bettye Davis (D-Anchorage). "Christina will have a chance to meet today's women leaders and to have her voice heard by them. Alaska should be proud that we are being represented by such a bright young woman." The essay topic was "The Millennial Dream." Ms. Petitfils submitted an essay titled "The Modern Fireside Chat" which examined how the Bill of Rights impacts the American Dream at the start of the new millennium. The contest winners will each receive a $3,000 college scholarship and an all-expense paid trip to the NFWL Annual Conference in Sarasota, Florida. Ms. Petitfils will be presented her scholarship by Senator Bettye Davis at an award ceremony at the November conference. The sponsoring legislator for the scholarship winner is also given an all-expense paid trip to the conference, which Senator Bettye Davis has generously transferred to Christina Petitfils mother, so she will be able to see her daughter receive the national award at the conference. ### |
