Additional information: Davis ANCHORAGE -- Senator Bettye Davis (D-Anchorage) announced that she is sponsoring Anchorage high school senior Christina Petifils in the seventh annual National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) and National Rifle Association (NRA) Bill of Rights Essay Scholarship contest. “This contest is not just a scholarship contest. It is an opportunity for young women to have their voices heard by hundreds of women legislators across the nation,” said Senator Davis. “Christina Petitfils is a bright young woman. Her essay is an insightful piece about what youth in America feel about our freedoms. I think she has a good shot at winning and I am proud to be sponsoring her for this contest.”
The essay topic is “The Millennial Dream." It examines how the Bill of Rights impacts the American Dream at the start of the new millennium.
The contest winners will each receive a $3,000 college scholarship and an all-expense paid trip to NFWL’s Annual Conference in November, where they will network with, and be mentored by hundreds of women lawmakers from across the United States. ### | |
