The Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline is likely to be the dominant topic in the upcoming legislative session, and for all the right reasons. Construction and operation of a natural gas pipeline could bring benefits to the state's economy for years to come. The University of Alaska's Institute of Social and Economic Research's (ISER) policy brief entitled The Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline - What's It All About? was released recently. This document does an excellent job explaining the challenges and choices Alaskans and the Legislature will have to make when considering a gas line contract. You can view this document online at: http://www.alaskaneconomy.uaa.alaska.edu/pipeline.htm Another study released recently on the gasline came from the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce. This white paper entitled Natural Gas and Alaska's Future, Volume 1 The Facts is the first in a series on the topic. This informative paper may also be viewed online at: http://www.anchoragechamber.org/cms/Default.asp?Page=146 I have been following this issue very closely, and will continue to do so. During the session, I will do my best to make information regarding the gasline available to you as I receive it. As we draw closer to the beginning of 2006's Legislative session, you have my word that I will only vote to approve a gas line contract that promises a maximum benefit to the residents of Alaska. Please feel free to contact my office with any thoughts or concerns regarding this important project. Sincerely,
Hollis French P.S. During session, you can call my Juneau office toll free by dialing 1-866-465-3892. From May- December I can be reached in my Anchorage office at 269-0234.
