The End is Near - Maybe

While it has been raining lightly for days in Juneau, inside the capitol building this week there has been a hurricane of activity.

You may have read in the press recently that a Superior Court Judge ruled that the secret gasline contract should be made a public document.

I wanted to keep you informed on this important issue. Below is the web address to view the Judge's ruling.

PPT - Oil tax legislation

In other developments, Senate Bill 305, the oil taxation system overhaul known as PPT, passed through the House Finance committee today. The bill will be debated next on the House Floor.

This morning, Representative Les Gara and I, in a letter to Speaker of the House John Harris, requested that the vote on the PPT bill not take place until the Gasline contract has been released by the administration. Rep. Gara and I feel strongly that ties between PPT and the proposed gasline contract must be clearly known before any final decision is made regarding this important piece of legislation.

Cap Budget

The Capital budget passed the Senate this week. The controversial Ketchikan and Knik Arm bridge projects received only partial funding within the document, leaving the future of those projects unclear.

I was particularly happy to see within the budget full funding for the Integrated Science Center on the UAA Campus - an urgently needed improvement to our hometown university.

What's next?

Midnight this coming Tuesday will mark the end of the Twenty-Fourth Legislature's regular session. Schedules and agendas for a special session (or sessions) will be dependent on what happens in the next few days.    My Juneau office will remain open after the regular session, and we will keep you informed as soon as we find out what's to come.

As always, I am very interested in hearing from you. Please visit my Web site or contact my Juneau office at (907) 465-3892.
