Senator Olson's Bill to Save Lives Passes the Senate

Senator Donny Olson (D-Nome), also a doctor, sponsored Senate Bill 160 to save Alaskans lives. The bill makes it so a person who uses or attempts to use an automated external defibrillator device on a victim of a perceived medical emergency is not liable for civil damages resulting from the use or attempted use of the device.

Senate Bill 160 now moves to the House.

Senator Guess's Commemorative License Plates for Veterans Bill Passes the Senate

Senator Gretchen Guess's (D-Anchorage) Senate Bill 146, which will allow the DMV to issue special request plates commemorating Alaska veterans, passed the Senate Finance committee today. The license plates could be purchased for a one-time fee of $100, with a biennial renewal fee of $35. The money raised would be available to support programs benefiting Alaska veterans, including an Alaska Veterans’ Home.

Senate Bill 146 now goes to the House.

Senator Hollis French's Bill Get to Tough on Sex Offenders Passes Senate Judiciary

Senator Hollis French's (D-Anchorage) Senate Bill 85 has two purposes: first, to increase the penalties for repeat sex offenders and, second, to reduce the rate at which repeat sex offenders earn “good time” while incarcerated.

Senate Bill 85 now moves to Senate Finance.
