The Best State Constitution in the United States |
|
On Saturday, February 4th, I made my way to Fairbanks and braved 40° below weather to honor and celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Alaska Constitution. I was a part of a small delegation representing the Alaska Legislature at the event. Alaskans from all over the state gathered at the University of Alaska campus where 55 Alaskans met for 75 days in the winter of 55’-56’ to draft what experts have called the finest constitution in our nation. It was fascinating and truly inspiring to listen to the recollections of the few living delegates. Following the banquet the large crowd attended the premier of the public television documentary entitled, “The 49th Star-The Road to Statehood”. It is a great production and I highly recommend it to every Alaskan. I was honored to be part of this historic event. Let’s keep in touch! Senator Johnny Ellis P.S. My next report will detail my priorities for this session. P.P.S. As always, it is my honor and privilege to serve you. |
