Once Upon a Time...
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I’m sure by now you have heard a story about how the new oil tax structure will generate more money for the state. But that’s all it is, a story.

The grim truth is that the new tax structure will have very real impacts on the state.
Less Oil -- the last three official projections from the Parnell Administration, including the most recent projection, which was done after SB 21 passed, all show huge declines in future oil production.
Less State Revenue -- lower oil taxes means less state revenue. That's why the oil industry wanted ACES gone, because it taxed more. Using the Parnell administration's own numbers, less funding will be available for roads, ports, and schools in future years.
Less Funds Available for Education -- with less oil, and less state revenue, education is going to suffer. Just look forward two years -- education is flat funded, meaning with normal cost increases, there is less available for classroom education.
The message is clear – the current tax bill is not a solution. It’s a giveaway. I urge you to continue to stand up for Alaska. Call legislators, write letters to the editor, and talk to your neighbors about what is going on.
Thank you,
