It's Anchorage Caucus time!
PUBLIC EXCITEMENT OVER PUBLIC SCHOOLS
 |
| Hundreds rally in front of the Capitol in support of public education. |
If you read the newspaper this week you may have noticed that we had a very successful rally in support of public education take place on the steps of the Capitol on Monday. Over 200 supporters came out and waved signs and stood side by side in solidarity over protecting our public schools.
You can read more about the Juneau rally at the Juneau Empire or the Anchorage Daily News.
There was also a massive outpouring of public education supporters that showed up and called into House Judiciary to give a resounding NO! to HJR1, the school voucher amendment. The bill was held for more committee discussion, so if you missed your chance to testify, you’ll get another opportunity soon.
Good news for my friends and neighbors in Anchorage: there are two important events coming up this Saturday, February 22nd. First, if there is an issue before the Alaska Legislature that you are concerned about or supportive of, please come and speak up to the Anchorage Caucus from 9:00am to 2:00pm in the Assembly Chambers at the Loussac Library. I’ll be co-chairing the meeting.
And if you believe, as I do, in the power of public education, there is ANOTHER “Rally For Our Students”, just like the one that happened in Juneau, starting at 1:00pm, outside the Loussac Library
Get more information about the Anchorage Caucus here and more information about the parents, students, citizens and businesses organizing to stand up for public education here.
I hope to see you in Anchorage this weekend,
