Dear Friends and Neighbors, It's been a busy week in Alaska's Capital City! Superintendents, teachers, parents and students from all around the state traveled to Juneau to talk about the importance of education funding and let legislators know what is working in their region of the state. It was enlightening to listen to the issues that are unique to the public school systems outside of Anchorage, and I look forward working with Alaskans to better our children's education. |

I also had a chance to meet with parents and staff from the Kids' Corps Head Start program in West Anchorage. The Head Start services offered at Kids' Corps, Inc. (KCI) are designed to promote the school readiness of young children from families that are economically at risk. Head Start emphasizes the role of parents as their child's first and most important teacher. Kids' Corps centers have high levels of parent involvement, with parents regularly participating in home visits, play groups, parent/teacher conferences and many other family-centered activities. Thank you, |

The "Pick. Click. Give." program makes it easy for Alaskans to find and support worthwhile charities by donating a portion of their PFDs to support programs for those in need. In 2012, Alaskans generously gave over $2.2 million dollars to over 400 nonprofit organizations through Pick. Click. Give. When you apply for this year's PFD, please consider setting aside a portion of it to be automatically donated to one or more of the hundreds of educational and charitable organizations that participate in Pick. Click. Give. Don't forget to ask your employer if they will match your contribution. |
