Dear Friends and Neighbors,

|
| Harriet with Governor Walker
after his State of the State Address. |
A new session is in full swing and I am excited to be back in Juneau representing my constituents.
As the state faces a fiscal cliff, I feel it is critical to focus on smart spending and identifying wasteful expenditures. I will be watching carefully and fighting against unnecessary legislation. We need to spend smarter, and we all need to be accountable.
I’d love to hear your ideas and opinions about the tough economy we’re dealing with. Please take a moment of your time to complete our online survey.
I'm honored to be serving on the House Education Committee once again and I will continue to fight for adequate public school funding, to stop unconstitutional school voucher legislation, and to work with both parents and teachers to strengthen our classrooms. Education has always been my top priority and I am proud to support Alaska's public schools and our hard working teachers.
I am carrying several bills this session. I reintroduced my bill banning a class of pesticide known to harm bees and other pollinators that are critical to agriculture. In addition, I am introducing a death with dignity bill because I strongly feel that everyone should have a right to make their own medical decisions.
Our caucus grew by three members this year. I am pleased to welcome Representatives Matt Claman from Anchorage, Adam Wool from Fairbanks, and Dan Ortiz from Ketchikan to our group and I am excited to see our numbers growing. These gentlemen will bring new expertise to our caucus and make us stronger.
I'd also like to welcome Alaska's new Governor, Bill Walker. I look forward to working with the Governor's office as we navigate a difficult economic reality.
My office is lucky to have Kristin Kranendonk and Rudy Ascott back for a third straight year. My staff is familiar with the legislative process and they are hard workers. My door is always open and I look forward to hearing from you!
Thank you,
