House & Senate Democrats Announce Legislative Priorities
Moving Alaska Forward
Juneau – House and Senate Democrats announced their legislative priorities for 2001. Legislators will focus on education, economic development, public health and safety, and subsistence.
"Democratic Legislators are pushing a positive agenda with schools and a gas pipeline that truly benefits Alaskans at the top of our list," said Senate Minority Leader Johnny Ellis (D-Anchorage).
"It’s time to move forward. When we do nothing, Alaska falls behind. That’s why we are promoting a long-range fiscal plan, the gas pipeline, education and bridging the urban/rural divide," said House Minority leader Ethan Berkowitz (D-Anchorage).
"It is important to remember that the state's wealth comes from its natural resources that are largely found in rural Alaska. All people across the state must be beneficiaries of that wealth,"said Reggie Joule, House Minority Whip ( D-Kotzebue)
A detailed list of priorities is attached.
