November 11, 2016
Dear Friends and Neighbors, Today is Veteran’s Day, which began as Armistice Day at the end of the First World War. At “the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month,” we pause to celebrate and honor our veterans who have dedicated their lives to protecting and serving our country. Thank you for the sacrifices you made and your commitment to upholding our values of freedom and democracy. General Election Results I am honored and humbled by the voters of West Anchorage who elected me to continue working as your Representative in the Alaska House of Representatives. Thank you to everyone who voted in this important election for Alaska and for our great nation. The work begins anew. Following the election, I joined a new Majority Caucus in the House of Representatives. The new House Majority is comprised of 22 Democrats, Independents, and Republicans who are committed to working together to address Alaska’s challenges, including our financial challenges. I welcome our new members and look forward to working alongside them. With the support of the new caucus, I will be serving as Chair of the House Judiciary Committee. Having served on the committee during my first two years in the legislature and worked with colleagues on critical pieces of legislation, including the Code of Military Justice and Criminal Justice Reform, I look forward to leading the Judiciary Committee when we return to Juneau. In addition to state and national races, Alaskans voted on two ballot measures: automatically registering voters when applying for the Permanent Fund dividend and allowing the state to contract for state debt for postsecondary student loans. Alaskans passed the first ballot measure by a wide margin and voted down the second ballot measure.
