Dear Friends and Neighbors, Thank you to everyone who completed our constituent survey! Your feedback is very helpful as we work through the state’s budget challenges. There are still several opportunities to share your perspective at hearings on the budget and the Governor’s revenue bills. I will keep you notified as more opportunities become available. Currently, no public testimony has been scheduled for next week. Constituent Survey Results: We received over 300 surveys from West Anchorage residents! Your responses show that the West Anchorage community supports my work for a responsible action plan for Alaska that looks at cost savings and revenue.
Thank You Anchorage Caucus Participants: Thank you to everyone who came last weekend and testified at the Anchorage Caucus Public Hearing. We heard from over 100 Anchorage residents on issues related to the budget, public education, University of Alaska funding, and many more. Listening to the public is more critical than ever in these challenging times.
Update on Medicaid Expansion Lawsuit: In breaking news, Tuesday, Superior Court Judge Pfiffner ruled in favor of the 40,000 Alaskans who currently have access to affordable healthcare under Medicaid expansion. The republican-led Legislative Council committee has already spent $450,000 on the lawsuit, which seeks to halt Governor Walker’s decision to expand Medicaid. I have never supported this lawsuit. Instead of spending $450,000 on a lawsuit that Alaska courts have already rejected three times, we should be focusing on Medicaid reforms that will have long-term cost savings for Alaska.
As always, please let us know if you have other suggestions or concerns. Sincerely,
Rep. Matt Claman |
