January 6, 2016
Dear Friends and Neighbors, I hope you and your family and friends had a wonderful holiday season. With the New Year comes a new legislative session. Next week, Anchorage legislators will move to Juneau to work on many important issues – namely the state’s budget – that will have an impact on Alaska for years. This weekend, please join me for two events that will give you a chance to speak with Anchorage legislators before we go to Juneau and learn more about the state’s budget outlook. Anchorage Caucus: As co-chair of the Anchorage Caucus, I am pleased to host a public hearing with Anchorage legislators and members of the public this Saturday, January 9th from 12pm-3pm at the Assembly Chamber in the Loussac Library. This hearing is an opportunity to let your voice be heard to many Anchorage legislators before they go to Juneau. Testimony will be on a first come, first serve basis; so make sure to be on time!
You can also view the event online by accessing Facebook or the Alaska Dispatch News’ event section. Constituent Meeting: After the Anchorage Caucus Public Hearing on Saturday, please join me for a constituent meeting and town hall at Turnagain Elementary School from 4 pm to 5 pm. Department of Revenue Commissioner Randy Hoffbeck will join us to discuss the budget and the Governor’s plan to bridge the deficit this legislative session.
I’m sure many of you have read or heard about Standard and Poor downgrading our state’s credit rating, which further shows the need for a responsible action plan to address Alaska’s budget deficit. Commissioner Hoffbeck will also be available to discuss this issue in light of the state’s fiscal challenges. BP Teachers of Excellence Award:
As always, please let us know if you have suggestions or concerns. Sincerely,
Rep. Matt Claman |
