Representative Sam Kito from Juneau Will Assume Second Highest Leadership Position Within the Coalition
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 11, 2016
Juneau – The 13 members of the Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition (AIDC) have chosen Representative Sam Kito (D-Juneau) as the new Minority Whip. Rep. Kito replaces the late Rep. Max Gruenberg, who passed away last month while in office, as the Minority Whip. The Whip is the second highest leadership position within the Coalition.
“I am honored to be chosen by my colleagues to step into this very important leadership position within the caucus,” said Rep. Kito. “I will use Rep. Gruenberg as my role model. He was a statesman who believed in the legislative process to serve the best interests of the people of Alaska.”
Rep. Kito was born and raised in Alaska. He earned an engineering degree from the University of Alaska and is a member of the UAA College of Engineering Alumni Hall of Fame. Rep. Kito has experience working on engineering projects across the state in both the public and private sector.
“The Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition is made up of some tremendously talented people who work as a team to serve the people of Alaska,” said Rep. Kito. “When we work together as a team, we can more effectively serve our constituents and ensure a bright future for all Alaskans.”
Rep. Kito was appointed to the Alaska House of Representatives in February of 2014 after the resignation of Rep. Beth Kerttula. Later that year, he was elected to the District 33 seat in the Alaska House of Representatives.
As the whip for the Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition, Rep. Kito will assume the duties of the House Minority Leader when he is unavailable or incapacitated.
