Rep. Geran Tarr

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 8, 2016

Juneau – Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage) is joining several organizations focused on the health and well-being of children in sponsoring a presentation this evening in Juneau about the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study.  The guest presenter will be Dr. Vincent Felitti, co-Principal Investigator of the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study.  The study was a collaborative research program between the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program and the Centers for Disease Control.

“Protecting our children and ensuring their success in life should be a priority for all of us,” said Rep. Tarr.  “With high rates of child abuse in Alaska, we need to better understand how child abuse has lifelong impacts.  Dr. Felitti’s ground breaking research can help inform decision making, including policies that would save the state millions of dollars.”

Tonight’s presentation is being co-sponsored by several organizations including Sealaska Heritage, the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska, the Alaska Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, the Alaska Children’s Trust, and the All Alaska Pediatric Partnership.  Monday’s free presentation will be held at 6 p.m. at the Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall in Juneau.
