High School Exit Exams:

Beginning in 2002 the State of Alaska will require high school students to take and pass a test of basic skills before graduating from high school. Governor Knowles has requested a delay of implementation of the exam until 2006. The delay will allow teachers and students to better prepare for the test.

Mobile Homes:

Senator Ellis is the prime sponsor of a bill relating to mobile home parks. The bill, SB 6, will require 360 days notice, or 180 days notice and $5,000 in relocation costs, for residents evicted from mobile home parks that are rezoned for development.

Health Care:

Senator Ellis is the prime sponsor of a bill trying to prevent sex discrimination in health insurance, as it relates to prescription coverage for contraceptives. In December 2000, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) ruled that failure by an employer to provide prescription contraceptives, when its health plan covers other preventive services and devices, constitutes sex discrimination. Do you support or oppose strengthening Alaska's laws to require companies to cover contraceptives?
