Response to Governor Frank Murkowski's State of the State Address

Good Evening,
I'm Senator Johnny Ellis, the Democratic Minority Leader in the Alaska Senate.

Tonight the Governor presented his views to Alaskans. I want him, as well as Alaskans from Ketchikan to Barrow to know that the Democratic Legislators are positive and upbeat about this session, we wish the Governor well and pledge to work with him on the challenges facing our state.

We also want you to know that we will apply a simple test to each of the Governor's proposals.

Do his proposals put Alaskans first & move Alaska forward?

For example:
Do his proposals favor Alaskan businesses or outside corporations?
Do his proposals favor Alaskan workers or imported labor?

Those are questions that will have to be answered.

We will hold the Governor accountable for his many campaign promises when necessary… and pledge to work with him in a can-do Alaskan spirit at every opportunity, because Alaskans deserve nothing less.
